EC Meeting November 2018

8.3 At the hotel notice has been given to make a current part time post of maintenance a full time post. In addition two other posts have been consolidated as full time. The President Vice President and myself will be meeting all hotel staff on November 23 rd and I will be meeting the HOD on November 27 th . 8.4 Notice was given that Ros Hartshorn would not be passing her probationary period and she has left us.

Jayne Pacey has been promoted to Education Administration.

8.6 Michael Liggins the new Site Manager has started employment but unfortunately had a period of serious food poisoning. 8.7 I have produced necessary paperwork for the recruitment of vacant posts and consulted on these and subject to decisions at this meeting will proceed accordingly.

Other work over the period.

9.1

Arrangements for the November EC have been made.

9.2 Discussions have been held with the contractors and project manager concerning the GFTU offices and arrangements. Also meetings have been held about the planning permission requirements for the new landscaping on site.

9.3

Several meetings have been held concerning budgets and finances.

9.4 I have met with representatives of the Durham Miners’ Association about potential joint work and also will attend on November 20 th their Redhills relaunch. 9.5 Heroes in the Evening Mist the posthumous last novel of William Ash has been published. I hope EC members will order copies. Also, we have nearly concluded the graphic novel history of trade unions and progressive struggles. I have advised on the history content and produced quotations for chapters and a resource guide. This should be published next March.

BGCM.

Meeting, Quorn Grange Hotel,May 19-21 st .

10.1

10.2 The deadline for motions and nomination of delegates is January 22 nd . This is therefore the last date for EC motions to the BGCM. Please notify me in advance of the meeting for circulation if you have any suggested EC motions. Otherwise, bring them to the meeting. 10.3 Unions will be advised according to rule of all BGCM arrangements by December 4 th . Notification of all dates has already been circulated.

Project 120.

11.1 Plans for our 120 th year need to be considered in final form at the next meeting in January.
