More time is lost through time off work as the result of injuries caused by poor lifting and carrying techniques than through any other injury at work. This practical half-day course, held at Quorn, is suitable for any worker age 16 or over and provides an introduction to moving and handling techniques. The course includes: • Why moving and handling are so important at work

• Understanding your back, anatomy and physiology • An introduction to ergonomics and to the biomechanics of movement • A basic guide to risk assessment Successful participants will receive an ‘Introduction to Moving & Handling’ certificate, which is valid for three years.

• Fire risk assessment • Emergency planning

This half-day course, held at Quorn, is for those members wanting to learn about basic fire awareness for their role as a Fire Marshal in the workplace. This course helps participants understand how a fire can start and spread, as well as how to assess and manage these risks in the workplace. The course includes discussions of: • The principles of combustion

• Fire action (to include – fire exit & fire safety signage; the role of the Fire Marshal in the event of a fire alarm; moving through smoke-filled areas; safely conducting an area or floor check; and assembly points & roll calls) • The use of fire-fighting equipment (fire extinguishers – through role play – and the fire blanket) Successful participants will receive a Fire Marshal training certificate, which is valid for three years.

• How fire and toxic fumes spread • An introduction to fire legislation
