Functional Skills The Core Building Blocks of the Labour Movement Regardless of your experiences at school, Functional Skills are the essential skills needed for English, Maths, and ICT in order for trade unionists to fully participate in life, learning and meaningful work. They form the building blocks that enable learning and all else flows from them. They are also a vital part of the Labour Movement’s armoury – upskilling its members and opening up for them new horizons. As a consequence, the GFTU offers the following entry level courses for its affiliates in partnership with Northern College and TERC, in order to provide a competency in English, Maths and ICT skills.
