Skilling & Organising for Workplace Reps A union’s Workplace Representatives (or Shop Stewards) are its backbone, and the first line of contact between the union and its members. Having well-trained, well-educated and highly motivated Reps dramatically strengthens the power, and influence of a union. It makes organising and recruitment possible, while at the same time permitting Reps to develop their own skills and interests – upskilling themselves while adding value to the union.
