The GFTU has organised a series of training courses and opportunities to ensure that unions are aware of the new data protection legislation, the role of the Information Commissioner’s Office, and the data protection obligations that they need to adhere to in the new regulations. There can never be too much training on this issue and any union officer, lay or paid, handling any members’ information should be fully briefed on the issues. This one day course, held at Quorn, is designed for anyone who has the responsibility for data capture, membership, marketing, and the sharing of information. The introduction will explore:

The rise of Social Media offers enormous possibilities to the Trade Union Movement, as well as creating new pitfalls. This one-day course is designed to show Reps, Activists and Officials how to use Social Media more effectively in order to promote the causes and campaigns championed by the unions. It will cover the planning of your campaigns, increasing your reach and the creation of more interesting and meaningful content. It will also look at how best to manage social media output, including through the development of jointly agreed social media policies. Aimed at Reps, Activists and Officials who use social media on a regular basis, but who would not describe themselves as experts. The course aims, by its end, to enable participants to:
