Bread & Roses - The Unions, Art & Culture Trade unions have a role that goes beyond workplace struggles for better wages and conditions. They are also engaged in winning the battle for dignity and respect for all working people, and also reshaping society about us in order to reflect our own stories, ideas and collective cultures. Control of the media, an understanding of language, campaigning and the wider arts are not tangential to – but an integral part of – growing and empowering the modern trade union movement. These practical one day courses, held throughout the year at Quorn Grange, are designed for activists and Reps who believe that working people are entitled to not just the bare minimum (the bread) but also the good things in life (the roses), which shape and improve the world around us all.
