EC Meeting Papers January 2020
A decision needs to be made to implement the decision to employ a senior development officer for the Trust as a priority. Several written briefings have been provided by way of induction to the new Head of Finance and induction and technical introductions have been made on site.
Procedures are in place of induction ongoing, probationary review and supervision.

Affiliations
One affiliate is experiencing financial difficulties and suggested that they would lapse their affiliation until their position recovered. The approach to this kind of situation historically by the EC is to try and be obliging and encourage the retention of affiliation even if this means a reduced subscription for a period. I hope to have spoken to the affiliate concerned by the EC and to be able to make a proposal. I would be very grateful if EC members could ensure that their unions have paid their affiliation by the end of January.

Ruskin
A challenging time is still being faced by the College and a further meeting with the FEC Commissioner is being held this month. We have successfully built a strong, trade union minded governing body and this bodes well we hope for 2020.
5
Housing.
There are ten units to fill and I have been clear that the priority is filling these and keeping them filled all of the time.
Before Xmas there were three units filled.
6
Loan to hotel.
Could I think EC members for responding to the email before Christmas concerning a request for a loan by the hotel.
I attach the loan agreement. You will see it imposes conditions.
Work to assess this and process the request was unexpected and time consuming in the pre Christmas period. The Hotel Directors meet at the end of the month to carefully consider the business pan and effectiveness.
