EC Meeting Papers January 2020

Finances

Audit arrangements have been made with the auditor. As we lack the pressure of completing accounts by March for the BGCM cycle, and as we have a new Head of Finance we are staging the completion of audits to meet the statutory deadlines. We will be aiming to get regular management accounts to EC members when the new Head of Finance has feet under the table. One union for whom we provide financial and other services has given six month’s notice to terminate this contract in the light of the introduction of improved and automated internal systems their end.

We will need to be looking actively for new financial contracts this year.

New Build.

Work, with the exception of snagging being managed by the Project Manager, is at last complete.

Extensive planting, as per planning conditions is being undertaken throughout the site as well as signage and some internal improvements. A portion of the total bill, in our case around £123,000 is ‘retained’ subject to satisfactory completion of works. All legal and other paperwork relating to the new build will shortly be deposited for safekeeping with the GFTU. An extensive paper and policy document has been produced by the Operations Manager to ensure the site and out asset are protected, are safe and in a good general state of repair. The site manager and Maintenance person have been transferred to the employment of the Educational Trust.

Education

Our status as an Institute of Leadership and Management Awarding Centre has been confirmed. Thanks should go particularly to the Operations Manager and our consultant Ashley Woods and our external verifier Tracey Richards for this work. The ILM demands are exceptionally onerous and detailed. Nevertheless it does mean that we can continue to offer ILM awards directly delivered by ourselves.

Trade Union Management Programme.

I have tutored on two two day modules of this course.

The group is of a high standard and it appears that the learning is greatly appreciated.

Demands on participants are quite high with three written assignments a portfolio and professional discussion. This programme is backed up by a very extensive online learning platform and some tailor made on line learning materials and workbooks.
