This course is recommended for Workplace Shop Stewards who understand the basic elements and requirements of their role, and who want to further develop their skills and confidence in representing their members. This five day course, at Northern College, will include the following: • Understanding the range of problems that affect members • The ability to collect and present information in order to represent members

• The production of a plan in order to deal with the specific problems of members • Develop the skills and confidence required in order to represent members in meetings with management • Equality, discrimination and protected characteristics • Bargaining, negotiation and consultation in the workplace • Review of Statutory Employment Rights • Bargaining, negotiation and consultation in the workplace

This two day course, held at Quorn, builds upon New Reps Development and is intended for more experienced Reps who either wish for a refresher or an opportunity to broaden and deepen their knowledge around a whole cluster of workplace related issues; from pay and conditions, and health & safety, to negotiating skills and campaigning around members’ issues. The course will include: • The sharing of best practice and workplace agreements • An introduction to the art, & pitfalls, of negotiating and pay bargaining

• Consultation in the workplace • Labour Law • Equalities in the workplace • Using ACAS procedures and as a space for conciliation or redress • Briefing officials • Building the branch, mapping the workplace • Trade Union democracy • Organising and recruitment
