GFTU BGCM 2019 Minutes
pleased to hear that although John is now retiring from the Executive, after he
has played such a huge part in moving the GFTU forward, it is fantastic news
about John’s musical talents this week, because I have been told that you are
actually going to be entering the Eurovision Song Contest next year, because
you have got time on your hands to get your song sorted!
I would like to place on record thanks to the outgoing Executive for the work
you have done over the past few years for the GFTU in many areas, including,
obviously, the trade union education and development at Quorn Grange,
helping to secure the future of such a fantastic organisation. I would also like
to take this opportunity to wish good luck to both the new incoming Executive
and the President, Oshor, who I am sure will continue the great work that has
been started.
So, conference, I would like to send special thanks as well to the GFTU’s
General Secretary, Doug. His dedication and commitment to the GFTU should
not be forgotten and potentially over the next four years his job is going to
become harder, especially as he is going to have to keep Ronnie in check.
Doug, it is not too late. If you want to resign, now is the time to do it!
(Laughter) Finally, above all, thanks to all the delegates who have made the GFTU 120 th anniversary such a success, so brilliant thanks to everybody. (Applause) THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much for that, Jackie. It only remains for me to
close the conference. Thank you to you all, thank you to the delegates, thank
you to your unions for supporting me during my presidency, I know you will
support Oshor in the same way. Lunch is waiting. I declare the conference
closed. (Applause)
