GFTU BGCM Minutes 2017

THE PRESIDENT: Can I draw your attention to paragraph 19 of the paper where the

Executive Committee of the GFTU are seeking the BGCM’s endorsement of

these proposals. I would like to take a vote on that.

SIS KATHY DYSON (Musicians Union): Can I just ask a question? I think it is a

marvellous proposal actually and you have obviously spent a great deal of time

and effort and money putting it together and it looks like it is all great, but I just

want to ask, have you assessed the impact of the building project on the

current businesses in terms of the nursery, in terms of the hotel and particularly

as it is a wedding venue and people will be very concerned about what it looks

like and getting in and out. You have probably thought of all this and made

provision, but I am not sure. I have been involved in building projects and while

the planning is amazing and the surveyors are good, they always come across

problems, there are usually time issues with building projects and it might be

that you cannot do things in the way that you plan to do them, because they

come across things that you have not actually seen in the survey. I have had

some experience with this. So I am just asking really how much you have

thought about that and whether you have actually made financial provision in

the event that your business maybe goes slightly down because you have got

massive building works on a site which is a wedding venue, for example.

Thank you. (Applause)

THE PRESIDENT: Kathy, the answer is very definitely and very much yes. It has

played an enormous part in all of the planning that we have done for this. We

will be using special screening, we will be doing the work at particular times in

particular ways to work around all of that sort of stuff, so that has been totally

and completely taken into account. We are doing everything we need to do to

ensure that we maintain our income streams and that we do not damage the

reputation of the business. It has all been completely considered.

The motion was CARRIED unanimously

THE PRESIDENT: The next issue, and it is a delight for me to do this, is to introduce

the new President of the GFTU, John Smith, who is going to address the

conference and good luck, John. (Applause)
