Hotel Directors Meeting March 2020
Quorn Grange Hotel staff pay structure.
Historically decisions about rates of pay and salary increases have generally been made by Tim Marshall, the Hotel’s General Manager, using his professional judgement, in agreement with the Directors. With the absence of a robust pay structure in the past, the Hotel’s wage decisions have sometimes been ad-hoc, with no clear underpinning principles. The Directors have requested that this is addressed with the production of a transparent pay structure. The introduction of a new National Minimum Wage (NMW) from 1 st April 2020 by the Government and a decision by the Directors provides an opportunity to address the issue. The 2019 NMW is shown in the table below and the new NMW has recently been announced for 2020 by the Government. To conform with the recommendations the new rates that will need to be introduced on the payments in that period (pay from 1st April 2020).

The attached spreadsheet shows the current pay rates for staff and various anomalies, which need to be addressed. The increase in some people’s wages should have no impact on the proposed budget for 2020. The structure and levels of pay contained in the document will be reviewed and re-issued in November 2020, to coincide with the production of the draft budget for 2021.
