Hotel Directors Meeting March 2020
6 To support each other in creating a healthy, safe, happy and effective workplace supporting affiliated unions – progress has been steady to achieve this goal and the atmosphere and focus of the Team has started to ensure a ‘culture of success’. 7 To produce a regular newsletter – Doug and Georgia have been developing the content and style for the first issue while others are being encouraged to contribute and promote. In compliance with GDPR people will be able to unsubscribe etc. 8 To protect and enhance the reputation of the organisation – with a positive reputation and people across the movement talking about the activism by the GFTU and positive benefits of affiliation there is greater likelihood of more Union’s affiliating – the opposite would detract from our reputation and work, undermining our sustainability and the work done. Georgia Wilkinson has been working with Win:Win partners to load information about opportunities up onto the GFTU’s website in three distinct bands, which are 1) support provided by the GFTU’s National Office which is chargeable, 2) support provided by the GFTU’s suppliers or partner organisations that adds value / is discounted, which is accessible directly or through the GFTU Team or 3) products or services that are member facing, enhancing the members benefits of being part of the Union. Win:Win work:
I am keen to explore how we can apply the Win:Win model across the hotel’s operation.
GFTU Event related activity:
The Union Building Conference was cancelled due to a lack of uptake.
The GFTU event based on the initiative that Dave Ward from CWU spoke about at the last BGCM called “A new deal for workers day” is taking place on 1 st May at the Hotel which is currently booked out for it. We have sought the support of Lee Barron, the Regional Secretary of the Midlands TUC, the Leicestershire Trades Council and others. The EC have been asked to provide a steer on what the GFTU might want to do at the TUC Congress in September, I suggested that options include; 1. A Stand in the exhibition space (The Hotel, TC Branding, UK Engage and Morrish Solicitors might be interested in a presence on the stand? There might be others involved with Win:Win that would like to do the same too?) 2. A Fringe Meeting 3. A Social event 4. Other suggestions?
Planning for the Young Members Development Weekend is underway by the working group.
Technology related:
The Samsung Flip and Clevertouch classroom technology is now installed in the GFTU Offices and can be supplemented with the Turning Technology voting pads.
