GFTU to work towards delivering a Labour Government by promoting
the Party’s policies among its affiliates and their members and also by calling
for a vote for Labour on June 8 2017.
He said: Chair, sisters, brothers, I think that over the next few weeks we have
got to make a Herculean effort to try and get a Labour Government into
position. Why do I say this? I am sure, like many of you, over the years I have
been telling our members that when it comes to the ballot the choice was not
between the sociality party that they would like and the Labour Party, the
choice was always between a Labour Government and a Tory Government and
given that choice we will always vote for a Labour Government, but this time
round the choice is better, because the choice is between a socialist Labour
Government or the Tories, the dreaded, dreadful Tories.
I was last week at the Clause V meeting that put the manifesto together and I
am not going to do like some other people did and leak things out of the
manifesto. It is about to be published, it is about to be published in Bradford
within the next couple of hours, but I can tell you something. That manifesto
really fits in with the Rebuild and Transform Britain slogan that we have got
here, because this will no longer be fiddling at the edges. This will be a new
start, a new start for our country and a new start for our people. It will put in
place a new economic settlement, one that works for the 99% and not the 1%
that we have currently got that only works for the richest in our society. This
manifesto will turn the tide of 30 years plus of market fundamentalism. Never
again, never again will we have a Labour Government, a Labour Government,
that rides the neoliberal dragon hoping to tame its worst excesses.
This is historical. The idea that we cannot change things has been ingrained in
us for a long time. I am telling you that when this manifesto is published in the
next couple of hours there will be a clear choice, a clear choice for people to make on June 8 th . It will be no longer business as usual if Labour regains
power. This will be a new dawn, a new dawn for our country, and no doubt that
those who are going to lose out are already attacking our party. If you are a
billionaire, if you are somebody who is dodging your taxes, if you are an
