Hotel Directors Meeting March 2020
Sometimes when you are near to the heart of an issue it can be a challenge to see the broader picture and emerging trends so we are pleased when we are offered constructive criticism or suggestions by critical friends such as the Directors, Affiliated Unions or organisations such as Leicestershire Promotions. The recent interviews with staff by Doug and Oshor have hopefully demonstrated that the staff at the Hotel are committed to the success of the business. The Leadership Team continue to strive to bring in more effective procedures and generate the funds expected. It is no longer business as usual. Things have to change to warrant the level of investment and we have less than a year to get this right because if targets are not met by June some very serious strategic discussions will take place. The Leadership Team will put together a “task and finish” action plan, showing things that are to be done, by when and whom and then use it as a team and individual workplan and will then report on achievements and challenges to Doug and the Hotel Directors on a monthly basis. A variety of policies have been adopted to help lay a structure and culture for raising standards and activity to meet the demands of the budget, and business plan and secure the required return on investments. The Leadership Team recognise the seriousness of the financial situation and are happy to take whatever steps are needed to improve the performance of the Hotel to achieve the revenue targets in the coming year. Directors and GFTU have wanted investment in staff to ensure higher levels of skill and service and recognising that a continually trained and upskilled staff is ultimately the key to success. Recruitment procedures agreed at the Autumn Directors meeting to be adopted immediately. Full round of appraisal for all staff, including SMT, in next 4 weeks, to include actions and Personal Development Plans. Meeting notes and PDP’s to be shared within 6 weeks. Once all of the Personal Development Plans have been completed a comprehensive Training schedule will be produced to embrace; - Functional skills (English, Maths and ICT skills). - Health and Safety related training (First Aid, Manual Handling, Fire marshall, Food safety, etc). - Vocational Training (housekeeping, Food and beverage, Reception team etc.) - Leadership development. - Train the Trainer. Peer review and Action learning groups. It feels as though assurances given have not been delivered and we have entered a critical period in which if things are not moved to a higher level of organisation there will be a catastrophe. This report is intended to address some of those concerns, but if it misses any of these issues or fails to address any emerging concerns we would like to discuss them with you, as we should ideally all understand and take ownership of the issues and strategy to address – “planning the work and then working the plan”.
